Happy Valentine's Day!
It's the day when we're all reminded of how important it is to be with our love ones..but how bad the situation must be for us to only remember this on Valentine's day??? Why can't everyday be a valentine's day?
It's another year of being single for me and just like last year, it's just another day. On the other hand, people are rushing around getting presents and booking tables for dinner. Is that what a relationship has come to be? All about presents and dinners once a year? One of the best Valentine's day memory for me was in 2000. He picked me up from work, which was really sweet, drove me back home and surprised me with a blackforest chocolate cake...one of my favorite! We just stayed home, eat cake, talk and spend the night together. All throughout the years we were together, Valentine had never been a big celebration because we were always apart. There were a few years when Valentine's day was close to CNY and I usually go back to Penang for a long holiday. Later when we started college, one Valentine he was in Australia and then he left for the States. When we were here, I always had to work. We never did exchange much presents for Valentine's day except for one year...he left me a card with blueberry candle and a bag of socks (which I refused to buy and was wearing socks with holes in them) while I was asleep. Then while he was working, I bought a bunch of chocolate candies with lots of KitKats (which was his favorite), mixed them up in a box and placed it on his computer desk. They were nothing expensive or romantic but were all sweet and meaningful.
But I think the idea behind Valentine's day is to remind us that we need to stop and look at the people around us and treasure how important they are to us. That it's important to spend the weekend with them, to remind them how much we need their support and love and simply, to love them even more. So, Happy Valentine's Day to all of you and thanks for all the comments and support..and most importantly, for even bother to read anything I post!!!
As for today, it's gonna be a chaos during my lab session this afternoon as I'm sure I'll have students who will bug me about how early we can get out of lab...especially those with plans tonight...kids!!
