Three different type of avians - American coot, the regular Mallard duck and Canadian goose - all living at the same section of the river. A good example of how different species can co-exist due to the different niches they occupy within the same habitat. Ping have yet to see the American Coot eat anything but it definitely has a different diet than the Mallard ducks and Canadian goose. Ping was by the river today and saw a little boy feeding the ducks with bread. The American Coot had no desire to go near the little boy at all while the Canadian geese and Mallard ducks were gobbling down the bread. The Canadian geese is a lot larger than the ducks so they were some sort of a threat to the ducks, as the ducks only charged for the bread when the Canadian geese missed it. However, they are not commonly found on the river as today is the first time Ping saw them there. In fact, the most common area to find the Canadian geese is at Trappers Cove where Ping lives! There are tons of them everywhere! They are found more on land than on the lake. One thing that keeps them preferably on land than on lake is their herbivorous diet. Therefore, they are not a big threat to the Mallard ducks and American Coot whenever it visits the river.
Such peaceful co-existence between animals make one wonder why the same peacefulness is hard to come by among humans, who are all the same species.
